SCECA Concludes Its Participation as Official Sponsor of the FIDIC Contracts in Arabic World Conference

Cairo, 3 October 2026

Reflecting its growing presence on the Arab and international engineering stage, the Syrian Center for Engineering Contracts & Arbitration (SCECA) participated as an official sponsor of the FIDIC Contracts in the Arab World Conference, held in Cairo, Egypt, on 2–3 October 2026. The conference brought together a distinguished group of experts and specialists in engineering contracts, project management, dispute resolution, and arbitration from across the Arab region.

The conference provided an important professional platform for exchanging expertise, discussing the challenges facing the construction sector in the Arab world, and exploring international best practices in the application of contracts issued by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC). It also highlighted the role of these contracts in maintaining a balance between contracting parties, reducing disputes, and promoting transparency and trust in the implementation of engineering projects.

An Active Syrian Presence and Distinguished Contributions to the Conference Programme

SCECA’s participation extended beyond official sponsorship to include contributions to the conference’s scientific programme through two specialised presentations delivered by members of its Board of Directors:

  • Dr. Eng. Ahmed Stifi, Chairman of SCECA’s Board of Directors and Chair of the FIDIC Integrity Management Committee, delivered a presentation entitled “Integrity from Tendering to Arbitration.” The presentation addressed the importance of upholding integrity, transparency, and contractual fairness throughout all stages of an engineering project, from tendering and contracting procedures to claims management, dispute resolution, and arbitration.
  • Eng. Faten Afara, Member of SCECA’s Board of Directors, delivered a presentation entitled “From Dispute Management to Building Trust.” Her presentation highlighted the importance of developing the framework governing engineering contracts in Syria and moving beyond addressing disputes after they arise towards adopting contractual and management practices that help prevent disputes and foster trust among employers, consultants, and contractors.

Strengthening Arab Cooperation and the Exchange of Expertise

SCECA’s participation provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties with engineering institutions, specialised centres, and experts in engineering contracts and arbitration, while exploring opportunities for cooperation in professional training and development, knowledge sharing, and the exchange of expertise.

The Centre emphasised the importance of drawing on Arab and international experience to develop Syria’s engineering contracts sector, particularly in the next phase, which requires a modern and effective contractual framework capable of supporting reconstruction projects, protecting investments, and strengthening trust among all parties involved.
